Care homes under new management
Management of Bromley Council’s six residential care homes for older people has been transferred successfully to Shaw Healthcare.
The not-for-profit organisation has an excellent track record of running care homes owned by local authorities and the NHS, as well as managing transfers from other providers, and emerged as the successful bidder after a rigorous competitive tendering process.
The changeover, which happened on 1 April, will be marked by an official ceremony in the coming months.
Councillor Phillips said: “This is the start of an exciting new era for residential care in the borough. We are looking forward to working with Shaw towards achieving our goal of providing high quality, locally based residential care, as set out in the Council's vision statement ‘Building a Better Bromley’.”
During the first phase of the new contract, Shaw will provide continuity of care to residents in the Council’s homes and a steady improvement in standards is expected.
The Council will also take the opportunity to explore Shaw Healthcare’s proposals for the modernisation of its residential services for older people and over the coming months, will be analysing current provision and considering future requirements, and will decide whether Shaw will be offered a contract to design and build new homes.
Residents, their relatives, carers and staff will continue to be consulted about the development of our services.
Jeremy Nixey, Chief Executive of Shaw Healthcare said: "We are delighted with the trust that the Council has placed in us and we look forward to working with the Council and the staff of the homes to develop the services which they provide."
