A multi-agency clean-up of graffiti, dumped rubbish, abandoned vehicles and other signs of anti-social behaviour swung into action on 26 April 2005 at the Ramsden Estate, Orpington.
The intensive one-day clean-up aims to:
- improve the environment for Ramsden residents by clearing areas of long-term rubbish around shops, car parks, and alleyways, including privately owned land; and
- reduce the visual signs of anti-social behaviour which impact on the area, thereby improving the quality of life for local people and discouraging crime.
The clean-up is also designed to improve community safety on the estate and reassure residents by providing a highly visible presence from Police, Bromley Council, and Housing officers and is in addition to the routine street cleaning which regularly takes place.
It is hoped that the clean-up will discourage criminals and make it easier for everyone to keep the area clean in future.
Councillor Colin Smith, Bromley Council's Executive Councillor for Community Safety and Chairman of the Safer Bromley Partnership said: "The clean-up sends a message to people whose anti-social behaviour destroys the local environment that this will not be tolerated in Bromley. Graffiti, dumped vehicles and rubbish are not only unsightly, but stop people feeling safe, and prevent them from being able to make the most of their local area. The Safer Bromley Partnership is working hard to reverse these effects and initiatives like this help to make Bromley safer and cleaner for everyone."
Chief Inspector Matt Bell, Metropolitan Police, Bromley Borough said: 'This operation, carried out in partnership by Bromley Police and Bromley Council is part of an on-going series of events targeting what really matters to many of the borough's residents. It demonstrates we will act to improve places where people live and work, and target those whose anti-social behaviour ruins people’s lives.'
During the clean-up 6 untaxed vehicles were removed from the estate.
Graffiti, dumped vehicles and fly-tipping can all be reported to Bromley Council on 020 8313 4557 or online at www.bromley.gov.uk/neatstreet.
