main content Recognition of Bromley's young achievers

21 April 2005

Bromley’s youth were recognised for their special talents at a Civic reception held in the Old Palace at Bromley Civic Centre hosted by Bromley’s Mayor, Councillor Mrs Anne Manning.

The event was aimed at the Borough’s top young achievers, including those who have succeeded despite learning or physical difficulties.

The young people represented achievement in a wide range of endeavour including sport, music, guiding and scouting, cadet leadership, public speaking, voluntary work, the Duke of Edinburgh Award and looking after the environment.

Councillor Mrs Manning said: “I wanted to give a clear message, shared by the Council, of reward for the many young people who pursue numerous interests and activities and who, in the process, achieve extraordinary success. They are a credit to themselves, their families and all who work with them. They are making a wonderful contribution to society and we should be proud of them”.

The Mayor congratulated the award winners, their coaches and mentors. She also recognised the importance of parental/carer support in helping young people to achieve their best.

Cllr Graham Arthur, Bromley’s Executive Councillor for Children and Young People, said: “These are remarkable young people and it is good to see their achievements being recognised in this way”.

Special awards were given to representatives from the Bromley and Blackheath Harriers Athletics Club, Bromley Youth Music Trust and Rectory Paddock School for their contribution in helping young people to achieve outstanding success.

Continuing the theme of young endeavour and excellence, the catering for this event was provided by pupils from Bullers Wood School. The school has established its own catering company, called ‘Chantilly Restaurant’, which trades from the school.
