main content A celebration of early years

05 August 2005

Events celebrating the contribution of the Government’s SureStart programme to children’s long-term development in Bromley took place earlier this summer. The events were organised across Bromley by the Early Years and Childcare Service in partnership with other associations.

Blenheim’s Children’s Centre in Orpington played host to a family fun day in the glorious sunshine. The children were spoilt for choice with bouncy castles, donkey rides, face painting and tattoos. Over 250 turned up on the day and the event had a real community spirit feel.

Tony Parker, Early Years Development and Childcare Manager said: “We are delighted to see the community getting so involved with the Blenheim Children’s Centre. The Children’s Centre is aimed at bringing together those services that children and families access regularly, and providing them under the same roof. The involvement of the community is key, and we are actively working at Blenheim to ensure that the service that is provided is the service that is needed. Across the borough, we are delighted that our childcare providers were able to join in with the celebrations”.

A giant teddy bears picnic for childminders and their minded children took place at Norman Park. There was plenty for the children to do with two bouncy castles, story time, arts and crafts, children’s entertainer and toys from the Mobile Toy Library. The childminders where able to use the event to find out lots of information about the Bromley Childminding Association, Bromley Libraries, Childminding Networks, Children’s Information Service Mobile Toy Library - to name just a few! The event was organised in partnership with the Bromley Childminding Association. Despite the small downpour over 100 attended the event.

Throughout the borough other events have taken place that were organised by pre-schools, childminders, out of school clubs and day nurseries.
