Licensing legislation update
As the ‘cut off’ date for licence applications has passed, up to 150 premises risk losing their licences to sell alcohol. The businesses include restaurants, hotels and corner shops. The Council’s licensing team is advising these businesses to apply as soon as possible to avoid trading illegally later this year.
“We have been as flexible as possible and applications received over the weekend will be processed. If businesses have not applied, they really need to apply now. Their application will be treated as new application and therefore, the application process will take approximately 8 weeks to complete.” said Paul Lehane, Bromley Council’s Licensing Manager.
In excess of 600 businesses have applied to convert their licences out of the approximate 750 who currently have a licence to sell alcohol. Businesses who did not apply to convert their existing licence now need to apply for a new licence before the 24 November 2005 deadline. Processing the application will take approximately 8 weeks (which includes a 28 day consultation period) and businesses are advised to apply now.
Advice about the licensing process is available by contacting the Council’s licensing team on 020 8313 4218.
