A treet for Bromley's Streets!
Over 450 trees are due to be planted in this year’s tree planting season. The programme, aimed at keeping Bromley green, will include the planting of species such as Rowan, Field Maple and Birch. Where possible, at each site, the same species of tree that has been used in the past will be planted.
“Trees are part of what makes Bromley special. This programme emphasises our commitment to enhancing the areas where residents live and work. The trees we plant will be enjoyed now and for generations to come.” said Councillor George Taylor, Executive Councillor for the Environment.
Apart from looking attractive, trees are essential oxygen producers, host to diverse wildlife. More than £50,000 will be spent on purchasing and planting the trees over the coming months. The trees will be approximately 3 metres in height and every new tree planted will have its own ‘irrigation tube’. The trees will be watered through these tubes until they are old enough to be self-sufficient. Signs will be placed on each tree stake asking residents to water them if they get too dry in between watering periods.
Tree specialists have surveyed all proposed sites for tree planting. Investigating whether each site will be fit for tree planting, they have taken into consideration factors such as telephone wires, pavement width and whether the tree will enhance the look of the area. Work will be carried out by the Councils arboricultural contractor Gristwood and Toms.
Residents can report damaged or fallen trees by calling 020 8313 4471 or emailing trees@bromley.gov.uk.
Out of hours, there is an emergency number to report trees that have fallen and are dangerous, for example those blocking roads - please call 020 8464 4848.
