Anti-social behaviour restrictions
A 17-year-old from the north of the borough received a two-year Anti-Social Behaviour Order (ASBO) on Monday 12 December at Bromley Magistrates' Court.
Sanchez Williams of Goudhurst Road, Bromley has caused disorder and been verbally abusive in the Burnt Ash Lane area for more than a year. He has also been involved in burglary and theft from cars.
Under the terms of the ASBO which runs until December 2007, Sanchez Williams must not:
- use threatening, racist, foul or abusive words or behaviour towards any member of the public within the London Borough of Bromley;
damage or threaten to damage any property not belonging to him in the following locations:
º Burnt Ash Lane Bromley
º Shaftesbury Park Bromley
º Brook Lane Bromley
º Sudbury Crescent Bromley
- congregate or be part of a group of three or more persons whose presence and behaviour is likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress to any person in the locations listed above;
- enter Ridgeway Drive Bromley;
associate with certain named people in any public place;
- touch or enter any private vehicle without the express permission of the owner;
Members of the public are encouraged to tell the police if they see Sanchez Williams doing any of the things prohibited by the ASBO and they should be assured that none of their details have to be made public. If he breaches the conditions, he could face a prison sentence of up to five years.
Cllr Neil Reddin, Executive Councillor for Community Safety and Leisure and Chair of the Safer Bromley Partnership said: “We welcome the granting of this Order to curb the behaviour of someone who has clearly terrorised his local neighbourhood.
“The Council’s Anti-Social Behaviour Unit has worked in close partnership with the police to take positive action to protect people in the community. This shows that together we can improve the quality of life for people in the borough.”
Cllr. Colin Smith, Chairman of the Safer Neighbourhood Panel in Plaistow and Sundridge said: “This is excellent news for local residents and businesses, and further demonstrates how seriously we take residents’ comments about anti-social behaviour in the area.”
Chief Inspector Adrian Young of the Bromley Police said: "The granting of this order is welcomed by police and the Community Safety Partnership as an effective measure to control the criminal and anti-social behaviour of Sanchez Williams.
"It is important that the community, who have had to tolerate his appalling behaviour, are reassured that police, in partnership with the Council's Anti-Social Behaviour Team, will take positive action to protect them.
"I hope the associated publicity surrounding this case will send out a clear message to the minority of people who affect the lives of others through their anti-social behaviour that they will not be allowed to get away with it. If people see Williams breaching any of his conditions I would encourage them to report it to either the police or the Anti-Social Behaviour Team. Together we can improve the quality of life for people in Bromley."
