main content Electoral Register published

01 December 2005

Today sees publication of our Electoral Register with an impressive 97.01% return rate. This is a record for Bromley under current legislation and higher than the London average of 87.96% last year and one of the highest in London.

This follows the annual canvass this autumn when residents were asked to complete an electoral registration form for the address they were living at on 15 October 2005. Inclusion on the newly updated register will entitle residents to vote in next year’s local elections in May.

Commenting on our achievement, David Bartlett, Chief Executive and the Electoral Registration Officer for the borough, said: ”Thanks to residents, canvassers and staff here at the Council, we now have one of the most complete and accurate electoral registers in London. This is key to preparing for next spring’s local elections and ensuring that local people are able to exercise their democratic right to vote. The Council delivers many important services and is guided in how these are run by the 60 councillors elected by residents, so it’s important that as many people as possible have there say on voting day.”

But it’s not too late to ensure a vote next May. If you missed the recent deadline to return your form you can still register by contacting Electoral Services on 020 8313 4364 or electoral@bromley.gov.uk. Outside of the annual canvass period (September-November), the register is updated on a monthly basis throughout the year. The next cut-off date is 13 December and monthly thereafter until the final opportunity on 13 March 2006 to be added to the rolling register before the local elections take place.

The new Register will be available for inspection in the main reception at the Civic Centre, Bromley from 1 December.
