Primary school admissions made fairer
Admission to primary school has been made fairer and easier for parents to manage. The new system, introduced for admissions in 2006/2007, means for all applications to Bromley schools parents now only have to complete one form.
The system will work in a similar way to the new co-ordinated admissions arrangements in secondary schools, which operated for the first time for this September’s intake. Though for primary admissions, parents can only include Bromley schools on the Bromley application form.
Admissions manager Doreen Pendergast said: “This is a much fairer system but it does not change the process for deciding whether a child will be offered a place at a particular school. Parents are advised to include at least one school that has historically covered the area in which they live.”
Anyone with a child whose fifth birthday falls between 1 September 2006 and 31 August 2007, must fill in an application form. This can be picked up from Bromley Civic Centre, in Stockwell Close, or any Bromley primary school.
Parents can get further information by visiting the Council’s website www.bromley.gov.uk or by picking up a leaflet from any of the borough’s libraries.
The deadline for applications is 1 February 2006.

Notes to editors:
- In previous years, parents had to apply separately to each primary school.
- For schools in Bromley local education authority, parents can list up to three schools, in order of preference, on a common application form.
- Applications to schools outside the borough must be made on the relevant LEA’s common application form.
- Available places are co-ordinated after the deadline so that each child receives just one offer of school place. All offers will be posted out on the same day, 2 May 2006
