Arrests follow graffiti damage at Bromley Car Park
Nine youths were arrested by Police yesterday evening in a Bromley car park thanks to an eagle eyed Parking Attendant. The arrests at the Beckenham Hill car park follow graffiti damage at two central Bromley car parks. The action follows a £20,000 clean up operation at the locations. More Council taxpayer money will be spent in another clear up.
"Our car parks are not playgrounds for bored teenagers. The damage caused by a few mindless yobs is horrific. The timely response of the Police was magnificent and it is a reminder that anyone caught could easily get a criminal record. We will keep removing graffiti - even when it is challenging to remove the graffiti when it is in a difficult to reach location" said Councillor George Taylor, Executive Councillor for the Environment.
The repainting operation will involve closing the stair wells for health and safety reasons. Most of the work will take place in the evenings when it is less busy, but the Council's parking team apologise for any inconvenience caused. Daily inspections of the Council's car parks ensures that the parking team are aware of damage and graffiti in car parks. Arrangements are made to remove graffiti and repair any damage that may have occurred.
Every day, the Council receives at least a dozen reports of graffiti from residents across the borough. Armed with the information, the graffiti busting team springs into action and literally paints out or sprays graffiti off walls, fences and shop fronts. Residents who need to report graffiti on a wall or fence near them can go to the Council's website at
