It was best foot forward for children at a Bromley primary school last week when they were rewarded for their hard work on the 'Walk On Wednesday' WOW! Scheme with a special award for the school. The children from Southborough Primary School have all walked to school, rather than get in the car, every Wednesday for the last two months.
"Our WOW! Scheme has really grabbed the children's attention. Over eighty four percent of children walk now, compared with only in fifty two percent before WOW! started. The children are rewarded with a different coloured badge for each month when they walk on every Wednesday. They really enjoy collecting the badges and it encourages the children to continue walking. The scheme has been piloted in three schools in Bromley so far. With the fantastic results shown we hope to get many more schools interested from all over the Borough," said Louise French from Bromley Council who is co-ordinating the scheme.
Numbers for the whole scheme are:
Southborough Primary School had 39% of children walking before the scheme now have 84% of children walking, which is 350 children in total.
St James' Primary School had 15% of children walking before the scheme now have 65% of children walking, which is 141 children.
Oak Lodge Primary School had 34% of children walking before the scheme now have 48% of children walking, which is 343.
