main content Illegal burger vans grilled by Courts

05 January 2005

Three owners running late night burger vans in Bromley High Street were fined by Bromley Magistrates Court last month, for operating without a street trading licence. Mr Fatin Meuzzin of Ansford Road, Bromley and Mr Mustafa Zeyin of Pinewood Avenue, Sidcup were fined £800 each, including costs, after pleading guilty to the offence. In a separate case, Mr Taylan Aktas of Braesyde Close, Belvedere, was also found guilty of illegal trading. The courts heard that Mr Aktas had three previous convictions for the same offence and as a result, was ordered to pay nearly £2000 in fines and costs.

"We are committed to keeping our streets safe and free from anti-social behaviour, which these burger vans tend to attract. Our Street Services Enforcement Team regularly monitors the town centre late at night, to protect the public from this type of unscrupulous activity" said Councillor George Taylor, Executive Councillor for the Environment.

The Council operates a successful street trading scheme, which monitors licensed traders and takes action against illegal street traders. To check whether a trader has permission to operate on the street, telephone the Street Services Help Desk Team on: 020 8313 4621.
