main content Council ensures future of Crystal Palace National Sports Centre

11 January 2005

Bromley Council continues to ensure that the National Sports Centre (NSC) will remain open to residents after Councillors agreed a contribution of £250,000 towards essential repairs at a meeting of the Executive last night.

In line with the existing agreement made between the Council, Sport England and the London Development Agency (LDA), the money will be spent on keeping the Centre open and accessible to the public, including improved disabled access and essential health and safety works.

This represents the Council's final contribution to the running of the NSC, before financial responsibility passes to the LDA and Sport England in 2005/06 and then wholly to the LDA in 2006/07.

Council Leader Stephen Carr said: "We are delighted to have contributed to safeguarding the future of this popular leisure facility for our residents before future financial responsibility is rightly shared by all Londoners rather than just Bromley taxpayers."
