Distinction for Bromley Head at the Teaching Awards
Paul Murphy, head teacher of The Ravensbourne School, Bromley, was awarded a distinction at the London Regional Ceremony of The Teaching Awards 2005. This was the seventh annual event since the awards were established by Lord Puttnam CBE in 1998. They celebrate excellence in local schools and honour the teaching profession for its dedication and commitment to improving society. The London event was one of 13 ceremonies taking place throughout England, Wales and Northern Ireland in June and July. The national final takes place in October and is to be broadcast on BBC2.
Paul received his award in the category of Head Teacher of the Year in a Secondary School and was nominated for his outstanding leadership by David Freeborn, a member of the governing body. Anne Clements, chair of governors, supported the nomination. He said afterwards: “This is testament to the hard work and expertise put in by everyone at the school over the last three years.”
Councillor Graham Arthur, Executive Portfolio Holder for Children and Young People, said: “Bromley has a proud record of receiving recognition in this way for its outstanding teaching and school leadership talent, with many regional winners and even a national winner in 2004. I am delighted that Paul Murphy has received this distinction and I am sure the governors, parents and pupils of The Ravensbourne School are very proud of him”.
