An Enviro-Crime Reward of £250 has been awarded to The Chislehurst Society, thanks to the public-spirited actions of one of it’s members. The award was donated at the member’s request - having declined any personal recognition or recompense for apprehending two graffiti vandals defacing a bus and for confronting the perpetrators of other enviro-crimes.

Mr Reg Parry, Chairman of the Chislehurst Society said, “We are delighted one of our members has won this award and grateful for the donation to The Chislehurst Society. The Society is committed in the fight against graffiti and vandalism, so the money will be put to good use in our clean up campaign”.

The £250 cheque was presented to the Chairman of the Chislehurst Society, Mr Reg Parry, during an awards evening at Edgebury School, Chislehurst, by Councillor George Taylor, Executive Councillor for the Environment.

“If you see an enviro-crime being committed, you could be eligible for a reward. As well as dealing with the problem, we will try to prosecute the offenders when we have the evidence. Your personal details will be treated as confidential but in some cases, witnesses may be required to give evidence in court” said Councillor George Taylor, Executive Councillor for the Environment.

The Council’s Enviro-Crime Reward Scheme aims to encourage people to report those responsible for committing crimes against the environment. Whether that crime involves graffiti, fly-tipping or dumped cars. If the information assists the prosecution of an ‘enviro-criminal’, up to £500 could be awarded as a ‘thank you’.

To report an enviro-crime, contact the Council 020 8313 4557 or visit www.bromley.gov.uk/envirocrime for further information. Witnesses who see an ‘enviro crime in progress’, in the first instance, should contact the Police.
