main content Looking after Bromley's trees

18 July 2005

Tree care across the borough is set to improve today. A new million pound contract, which combines both tree care and safety, has been awarded to Gristwood and Toms Tree Contractors Ltd. The 3 year contract will deliver a high quality service for the 115,000 trees found in our streets and parks.

Alongside the new contract, a survey of every tree is being carried out by qualified arboriculturalists or ‘tree experts’. So far, over 35,000 trees have been individually identified and given a ‘health check’ to assess their size, condition and any potential problems that require work to be carried out.

“These changes will allow us to enhance the condition of the trees we have in Bromley. Trees are an intricate part of the environment that makes Bromley a special place to live and work in. They not only provide a contrast to our built environment but are a legacy we can leave in tact for generations to come” said Andrew Wright, the Council’s Parks Project Officer.

Trees provide a safe haven for many species of wildlife and also contribute towards achieving better air quality in Bromley. A variety of tree species can be found in the borough including oak, ash, rowan and beech. The Council provides a 24-hour response to reports of fallen trees.
