A Bromley resident has been fined £600 for noise disturbance at Russell Court on the London Road. Mr Adam Shepherd of Russell Court pleaded guilty to charges of ‘noise nuisance’ at Bromley Magistrates Court last Wednesday.

“Noise disturbance can destroy our quality of life. It is both irritating and annoying. We investigate approximately 4,000 noise complaints each year. Remember, that particularly at this time of year, when windows are open and noise travels further. We all need to be particularly considerate to our neighbours” said Councillor George Taylor, Executive Councillor for the Environment.

Mr Shepherd was served a Noise Abatement notice under the Environmental Protection Act in September 2004, after assessment by Council staff. However, after continued complaints, the Council’s Environmental Health team and Police seized all noise making equipment in February this year. Breaching this notice can result in prosecution and a maximum fine of £5,000 for residents.

Residents are reminded that the Council operates a 24-hour service to respond to noise complaints such as loud music, barking dogs or car alarms. The team works closely with Police, housing associations and the mediation service. Noise complaints can be reported by calling 020 8313 4830 or 020 8464 4848 during out of office hours.
