main content Waldens planning inquiry ends

05 July 2005

The planning inquiry regarding three appeals relating to a number of plots at Waldens Farm in Green Belt ended last week. The government appointed Planning Inspector will now consider the planning issues and the Government will announce their decision in due course. An announcement is expected later this year.

“We will have to wait and see what government now decides. We refused planning permission for the siting of caravans at the plots on Waldens Farm because this would be an inappropriate development in Green Belt. We do not believe that there are very special circumstances that warrant the granting of planning permission. The Inspector has heard our evidence and listened to the applicants and will now have to decide” said Council Leader, Councillor Stephen Carr.

The two day planning inquiry heard three appeals against:

  • The Council’s decision to refuse planning permission for the siting of 2 caravans, 1 mobile home and utility room on plots 648-658 at Waldens Farm.
  • The Council’s decision to refuse planning permission for the siting of 2 caravans and 2 mobile homes on plots 612-613 Waldens Farm.
  • An enforcement notice issued by the Council in respect of the material change of use of the land from agricultural use to use for the stationing of caravans on plot 803 Waldens Farm.

Waldens Farm is made up of approximately 800 small ’leisure plots’ when the former orchards were fragmented and sold in 1974. The Estate was subdivided on a ‘grid-iron’ basis into plots of approximately 10 metres by 30 metres.
