main content Council improves Council Tax collection rates

27 June 2005

Bromley Council is determined to make sure it maximises its income and figures released last week show the Council has a Council Tax collection rate of 97.1%, its highest since 1997. The improvement trend is upward with 96.4% in 2002/3, 96.8% in 2003/4 and 97.1% in 2004/5. How residents feel about the Council Tax collection service has also improved on the previous year following a satisfaction survey during 2004/05 showing 94% were satisfied with the service, an increase of 6%.

The Council is determined to continue to improve its collection rate and have already achieved higher rates in the first two months of this year compared to the first two months of 2004/5. Together with its contractor, Liberata, it is working hard year on year to develop innovative methods to make sure it collects Council Tax as efficiently as possible and ensure it offers residents good value for money.

The four London authorities above Bromley although recording higher performances than Bromley, all recorded worsening results when compared to their performance the previous year:

Council  %
City of London 98% (98.2%)
Sutton 98% (98.3%)
Harrow 97.5% (98%)
Richmond upon Thames 97.4% (97.9%)
