Seven Year 7 pupils from The Priory School in Orpington have designed a guide to help primary school children feel more prepared for secondary school. The Priory pupils based the guide on interviews with primary school children and their own experiences.
The project was jointly funded by Bromley Children's Fund and London Challenge as part of the Moving on to Secondary School Project.
Sharon Bingham, Bromley's Moving on to Secondary School Co-ordinator, said: "The Priory pupils worked so hard to ensure that they researched and included all the issues that primary pupils wanted help with, while also making sure that the guide was fun and looked 'cool'."
The pupils also helped to host a 'confidence for secondary school event' at The Priory School, where the guide was given to children from six local primary schools. Pupils starting at The Priory in September and primary schools working with Bromley Children Project will also be given the guide.
The Priory School and the Moving on to Secondary School project will be also be hosting a summer camp during the school holidays. Year 6 children from seven primary schools will be invited to take part in free themed arts and sports activities to help build confidence for secondary school.
