People over 60 are being given the opportunity to take their first steps on the way to stardom as the Great Hall, Bromley Civic Centre in partnership with Age Concern Bromley hosts a local heat for a national talent competition, with a £1,000 prize for the eventual winner. ‘YOURS Silver Stars’ is a unique amateur talent contest for the over 60s. This annual event is an exciting chance for people over 60 to sing from the rooftops, dance like Fred and Ginger, make us laugh and above all have a desire to perform and entertain the audience.

The event, supported by Age Concern, is the largest of its kind with thousands of people from all over the country taking part and watching the acts. The winner of the Bromley local heat will go onto an area final and if successful go on to the grand final at the Southport Theatre at the end of July with a £1,000 awarded to the winner!

The Bromley regional heat takes place at the Great Hall, Bromley Civic Centre on Sunday 3 July between 2pm-4pm. The compare for the show is Bromley’s own inimitable star Perke Pete, who’ll bring his own brand of style, humour and above all encouragement for the entertainers.

Rob Schemebri, Pavilion and Civic Halls Group Manager, said; “We are delighted to be part of the ‘YOURS Silver Stars’ talent contest. This event is a great opportunity for this talented age group to show what they can do, it is certain to generate a lot of interest and we hope that family and friends will rally round to cheer on their star performer on the day. There’s a wealth on talent in Bromley and it wouldn’t surprise us if one of the entertainers made it all the way to the grand final.”

The event is free and refreshments will be available.
