The reuse and recycling centre at Waldo Road opened officially yesterday. The near £1 million scheme reflects resident’s feedback for improved services at the site and is designed to boost recycling as well as reduce queuing traffic.

“The facilities have been dramatically improved and we have taken residents’ feedback on board. We are closely monitoring the way the site is used to make sure that the new system works as well as it can. Staff are on hand for first time visitors to the site are also available to assist in lifting heavy or bulky items” said Councillor George Taylor, Executive Councillor for the Environment.

Residents can unload items at one of 25 unloading bays into dedicated bins for different types of material. The bins on the site, which are signposted, take green garden waste, mixed wood, metal, cardboard, electrical waste, furniture and hardcore/rubble. In addition, there are recycling banks for glass, paper, clothing and car oil, as well as an area where you can bring your old fridges and freezers.

“This transformed site at Waldo Road is a real boon for recycling in Bromley,” said Director for Onyx Greater London, Christophe Bellynck. “As residents sort their waste and bring it to the site, they will be surprised at how little actually needs to be disposed of as rubbish. I hope residents find the site easy to use and continue to take pride in boosting Bromley’s recycling rate.”

The new household reuse and recycling centre has separated the dustbin and recycling lorries away from the area used by members of the public. Trade waste is also separated. This is designed to improve safety, efficiency and cut traffic queues. The site continues to have the same operating hours as before.
