main content West Wickham - swimmers' favourite pool

26 May 2005

West Wickham Pools, run by Bromley Mytime, the local charitable trust that operates leisure facilities throughout Bromley, has been voted in the top three swimming pools in London. The centre received high praise from the people who matter most, the swimmers themselves, in the recently announced 'The Golden Goggles' awards, presented by Olympic Gold Medallist Duncan Goodhew OBE.

Swimmers from across the capital took part in a ‘London Pools Campaign' survey of over 100 pools and West Wickham Pools, in Station Road was short listed in the 'Swimmers Favourite Pool' category following a London wide survey.

West Wickham Pools has two excellent pools, one for teaching and the other for various activities and sessions including lane swimming, parties, aqua aerobics, and family splash. The pool has a great learn to swim programme and over the years thousands of local people have learnt to swim at West Wickham.

On a recent visit to the pool, double Olympic medallist Nick Gillingham MBE said; "I have been all over the country and seen numerous facilities and these are amongst the best. These are well run, clean, affordable pools together with the enthusiastic and friendly staff."

Gavin Halil, West Wickham Pools Manager said; "This is a great honour to have West Wickham in the top three pools in the capital. Our new programme and incentives such as ‘Swim for £1’, ‘Family Swim Tickets’ and ‘Free Swimming for Teenagers’ are very popular and we will build on this achievement striving to further improve the Centre."
