Carers celebrate decades of fostering
Decades of dedication shown by foster carers in Bromley were celebrated at a Civic Centre reception.
Among those attending the event, hosted by the Mayor Councillor Mrs Anne Manning, were three couples who between them have been fostering for more than 40 years. Two couples have been fostering for 10 years and one couple have fostered for an amazing 20 years.
Presenting bouquets and long service certificates to the couples, the Mayor paid tribute to them and their families for their dedication to the countless children they have cared for and helped prepare for adulthood. Six other foster carers who have successfully completed a level three NVQ in Caring for Children and Young people also received certificates and cheques from the Mayor.
Terry Rich, Director of Social Services, added his personal thanks to the couples and to carers past and present. He said: "In recent years we have together made great strides in improving the lives of some of the borough's most vulnerable and disadvantaged children."
Welcoming 28 new foster carers who have joined Bromley in the last year, some new to fostering and some from independent agencies, Mr Rich congratulated Bromley's Fostering Team but said new carers are always needed, particularly from black and minority ethnic communities.
If you are that very special sort of person who can make a difference to a child's life by becoming a foster carer for Bromley, call 0800 028 8298 for an information pack and an invitation to an information evening.
