Duke of Kent visits James Dixon
Staff and pupils at James Dixon Primary welcomed the Duke of Kent to officially re-open their school as they celebrate their golden jubilee. The Royal visit marked the relocation of James Dixon to the site of neighbouring Anerley Primary, in William Booth Road, which closed last year.
The Duke was greeted by Headteacher Pat Piper, Chairman of Governors Leonard Blomstrand, Mayor of Bromley Councillor Mrs Anne Manning and Lieutenant Colonel Robert Murfin, HM Deputy Lieutenant for Bromley, before being given a tour of the school. He was also treated to a selection of songs and unveiled a plaque in the school hall.
The successful James Dixon has expanded to twice its original size to take on pupils of Anerley Primary. This massive task was completed during the summer break last year in time for the start of the autumn term in September.
In its new location James Dixon will be able to widen the services it provides for the community and make provision for children with complex special educational needs. The school has a nursery and will also develop a Children's Centre for local families.
Headteacher Mrs Piper said: "The Duke's visit made the day very special for everyone at our school. The children sang beautifully and behaved impeccably, and the School Council representatives enjoyed talking to the Mayor and her Consort.
"Merging the two pupil populations has been very successful thanks to the hard work of the staff and the good support of parents, governors and the local authority. At the new school our vision continues to be about raising the achievement of every child."
A recent Ofsted inspection of James Dixon found it to be a "good and effective school" where children achieve high standards. It has been successful in providing a rich and rewarding curriculum for children.
Bromley's Portfolio Holder for Children and Young People, Councillor Graham Arthur said: "James Dixon has a good track record as a successful school and it is wonderful to have the opportunity to celebrate all the hard work and commitment which has gone into this move."
