main content New consultation on special schools

17 May 2005

A consultation on new proposals to improve the quality of Special Educational Needs (SEN) provision in the borough is announced today.

The consultation - taking place in June and July - will seek views on proposal which include the amalgamation of Rectory Paddock and Woodbrook schools on the Rectory Paddock site.

Other parts of the consultation will cover upgrades and refurbishments to the Glebe School, in addition to extending facilities at Marjorie McClure School to include provision for children with severe learning difficulties and children with significant medical health needs.

Councillor Graham Arthur, Portfolio Holder for Education said: “These plans will help us ensure the service we provide for children with SEN is continually improved and will help us invest in young people themselves. In the future we need better designed, well equipped schools for children with a diverse range of needs. I am confident that these proposals will help us to achieve the highest standards of provision for children who are among the most vulnerable in the borough. We want to ensure all children with SEN have access to excellence.”
