Ryan reaps reward and WoWs the judges
A Bromley school boy has won a national competition to design a badge for the 'Walk On Wednesday' 'WoW' Scheme and will see his badge being used by school children all over the country. Ryan Cattermore, aged five, from Valley School, Bromley had his design chosen from thousands of entries in the competition which was organised by Transport for London.
"We are really proud of Ryan and pleased that he won this competition. Thousands of children right across the borough already walk to school. It is a good way of keeping healthy and has an impact on congestion by keeping cars off the road. But, we need to encourage even more children to walk to school and those taking part in the WOW challenge will soon get to know Ryan's badge design. If you are a parent or a child and you do not already walk, why not take up our 'WoW' challenge?" said Louise French, School Travel Plans Officer at the London Borough of Bromley.
There were twelve winners nationally and at least forty thousand badges of each design will be distributed across the country to children who participate in the WOW scheme.
"London has embraced 'WoW'! It is a great scheme that appeals to pupils and schools and, it really does get results. We know that children want to walk to school and 'WoW' helps make it possible. So far, the scheme has increased the number of pupils who walk to school at least once a week by an average 30% in 'WoW Schools' throughout London". Emma Sheridan, regional travel advisor, Transport for London.
Parents, teachers and pupils who want to know more about how to take part in the 'WoW' challenge can call the Council's Road Safety Unit on 020 8313 4546.
