main content Banish bullying from Bromley

24 November 2005

Schools across the borough are holding a wide range of events to mark anti-bullying week. With activities such as special assemblies, drama productions and design competitions, pupils have found many ways to spread the message that bullying should be banished from Bromley.

The Council’s Education Welfare and Behaviour services are also supporting the week by asking students to design their own anti-bullying wristband. Winners will be invited to a prize-giving ceremony at the Civic Centre on Friday.

Executive Councillor for Children and Young People Councillor Graham Arthur said: “I have been struck by the number and variety of activities taking place across the borough this week. It is very encouraging to see young people taking this issue seriously. To make the most of their opportunities, children should be free to pursue their education without fear of being bullied. Bullying is pernicious and cowardly and will not be tolerated in our schools.”

At the Civic Centre ceremony on Friday, the Council will also launch a revised anti-bullying strategy, which schools, young people, parents and other interested parties will be invited to comment on.
