main content National acclaim for special service

24 November 2005

Bromley’s Pre-School Special Educational Needs services and Early Support programme have reached the finals of the prestigious Sure Start Partners in Excellence awards.

Shortlisted in the Transforming the Children's Workforce category, the entry was one of 350 from across the country. Winners will be announced at a ceremony at Lancaster House in central London on December 6.

Executive Councillor for Children and Young People Councillor Graham Arthur said: “The work they do with some of our most vulnerable young people is tremendous and they thoroughly deserve this national recognition.”

Based at the Phoenix Children's Resource Centre, in Masons Hill, Bromley, Early Support and the Pre-School SEN service bring together more than 130 professionals from a range of agencies, providing co-ordinated support.

This has resulted in greatly improved, innovative services and new support for families of very young children with special needs and disabilities.

Helen Norris, head of Pre-School SEN and headteacher of the Phoenix, said: “We have an amazing team working together here in partnership with our families and their very special children and reaching the awards finals is testimony to the work they do every day on their behalf.”
