main content Building a Better Bromley: your borough, your choice

21 October 2005

Local residents and businesses will get the chance to tell leading councillors and council officers what matters most to them and what they want for their community in 2006 and beyond in a series of public meetings across the borough next month.

The New Year will bring greater challenges than ever for Bromley including decisions on how we can:

  • redevelop Bromley town centre as a vibrant, thriving place where people feel safe to shop, enjoy themselves or set up business;
  • best provide the help and facilities that will enable the more vulnerable members of our community to stay safe and healthy, and feel involved and valued; and
  • further improve the cleanliness, safety and appearance of the local street scene.

As well as enabling local people to express their views, the meetings will provide an opportunity to find out about improvements over the last year, what we are doing to protect and improve the borough today and the service and budget choices that lie ahead of us. There is no need to book, just turn up at the most convenient time and place:

Tuesday, 1 November  Civic Centre, Bromley
Thursday, 3 November Methodist Hall, Orpington
Tuesday, 8 November Oaklands Junior School, Biggin Hill
Thursday, 10 November St Paul's Cray Primary School
Tuesday, 15 November Bromley Road Infant School, Beckenham
Wednesday, 16 November Red Hill Primary School, Chislehurst
Tuesday, 22 November Anerley Business Centre, Penge

Council Leader Stephen Carr said: “It’s just short of a year since we last asked local people face to face what Building a Better Bromley means to them. There have been a number of improvements in the borough following that, many of which are a direct result of listening and responding to your concerns. But have we made a difference? We know from our research and consultation that safer communities and a quality environment have been the top issues in recent years, is this still the case? Continuing to listen to you is vital to ensuring that your priorities remain our priorities as we plan ahead to meet local needs, and that we remain able to provide the high levels of customer service that you expect and deserve. So please come along with your friends and neighbours and tell us what you think. It’s your borough, your choice. We’ll listen and then let you know in the New Year how we plan to incorporate your thoughts into real improvements that will help Build a Better Bromley for us all.”
