Makeover for Churchfields Road Civic Amenity Site
A well-needed makeover for the dated Churchfields Road Civic Amenity Site was agreed at last week's Environment Portfolio meeting. The £190,000 scheme follows the successful transformation of the Waldo Road site earlier this year to a state-of-the-art Reuse and Recycling Centre.
The proposed changes aim to improve access for different site users and offer a wider range of facilities for the recycling of materials. The actual work is due to commence later on this year and the new centre will be ready for use in May 2006.
“We are making good progress with our Government targets, and are currently recycling over 28% of resident’s waste. The redevelopment of this site will allow us to recycle even more. We will be consulting with the local school, residents and businesses plus users of the site about our initial proposals.” said Councillor George Taylor, Executive Councillor for the Environment.
The new site will see the introduction of containers for residents to put their separated waste such as mixed wood, green garden waste, electrical waste equipment in for reuse and recycling.
The redevelopment of the Waldo Road site has significantly reduced congestion caused by site-users. It has also led to a substantive increase in levels of recycling, with over 50% of all waste delivered to the site being recycled. It is intended that the redevelopment of Churchfields Road will mirror the improvements at Waldo Road and provide a similar level of recycling facilities.
