main content Space for wild facts

17 October 2005

Finding information about wild goings on in Bromley is much easier now following the creation of new web pages.

"We hope the dedicated web pages at www.bromleybiodiversity.co.uk will act as a one-stop shop for residents wanting to know more about biodiversity in the borough or biodiversity-related activities. Why not save the web address to your favourites and keep up-to-date with what’s going on?” said Ewa Prokop, Countryside Projects Officer.

Useful details now at the fingertips of residents, include ideas on how and where to get involved in helping local wildlife, suggestions on visiting Bromley’s green spaces, and up to date listings of events and local wildlife contacts.

Details of habitats and species being given extra special consideration locally, as part of the Bromley Biodiversity Action Plan, are also highlighted. These include hedgerows, heathland, the song thrush and butterflies alongside targets for action over the next three years. The public have the opportunity to comment on the proposals outlined, with views being sought by 23 November 2005.

The web pages are hosted by the Council on behalf of the Bromley Biodiversity Partnership and have been funded by the EU LIFE Environment Programme as part of the SUN Project.

Notes to Editors:

  • The web pages aim to highlight and help local habitats and species that have been identified as important under the Bromley Biodiversity Action Plan or BBAP. They aim to engage the public with biodiversity, seeking to involve more people with recording local species, enhancing urban habitats and conserving valuable nature conservation sites as well as to enjoy local biodiversity. ‘The Future of Darwin’s Wildlife in Bromley’ is a plan of action for Bromley’s wildlife. The Bromley Biodiversity Partnership progresses the actions highlighted in the plan. For further details please contact Ewa Prokop, Countryside Projects Officer on 020 8313 4665 or ewa.prokop@bromley.gov.uk. The information is also accessible via www.bromleybiodiversity.co.uk.
  • The London Borough of Bromley is one of seven ‘SUN’ partners. The ‘Sustainable Urban Planning Networks for Green Spaces’ Project, is funded by the EU LIFE Environment Programme, ending in August 2006. Some of the key elements of the project, promoted via local Biodiversity Action Plans are:
    • encouraging involvement of stakeholders in biodiversity;
    • implementing local biodiversity action plans through innovative projects;
    • encouraging representation on local biodiversity partnerships; and
    • setting examples of good practice to others.
