A benefit fraudster pleaded guilty at Bromley Magistrates Crown Court, bringing the total prosecuted to 41 since the inception of Bromley Council’s partnership with Greenwich Council in April 2002.

Council Leader Stephen Carr said “ Fraud will not be tolerated by this Authority and this prosecution is evidence of our policy to pursue fraudsters vigorously.”

Earl Stevenson, 34, formerly of Churchfields Road, Beckenham, pleaded guilty to defrauding Bromley Council of benefits totalling nearly £3,000. He was sentenced to a 140 hour Community Punishment Order with £200 costs. The Council is currently seeking to recover overpayment of benefit.
