main content Food for thought as restaurant says "thanks"

23 September 2005

A special reception and dinner was held at Mello restaurant to say “thank you” to schools in Beckenham and the surrounding area. Head teachers from secondary, primary and special schools, councillors and Council officers were invited to the event in appreciation of the work they do for young people.

Councillor Graham Arthur, Executive Councillor for Children and Young People, said: “Our schools are consistently among the best in the country, both academically and for extra-curricular activities.

“It is important for us to recognise their achievements and say thank you for giving our young people a great start in life, and we are grateful to Mello for providing this opportunity.”

Serving modern European cuisine, Mello, in Southend Road, Beckenham, opened three years ago under the ownership of Ali Demirtas and Veli Narin and has been awarded two AA rosettes for good food.

Mr Demirtas said: “Education is so important and we wanted to express our thanks to schools and the Council for everything they do for our children.”
