Be a responsible dog owner
Friends of Bromley parks are teaming up with Bromley Council to launch a ‘be a responsible dog owner’ campaign in many of the borough’s parks during the weekend of 29 and 30 April.
People involved in the initiative will be out and about over the weekend to put up ‘no fouling’ signs, hand out leaflets and remind people to clean up after their pets.
“The pleasure of owning a dog brings with it a number of responsibilities,” said Louise Simpson, Bromley’s senior landscape strategy officer. “If everyone cleaned up after their dogs, it would make a difference to the quality of our open spaces. While many owners act in a responsible way, there are a minority who spoil the environment for others.
“We will be in a number of parks during the weekend to spread the word and give away special waste bags to dog walkers. We’ll also be manning the Bromley caravan from 11 am to 3 pm on Saturday to get the message across in the town centre.”
Toby Smith manager of the parks and community service for the Council said: “Much of the time and money spent on dealing with issues concerning dogs could be saved if all owners were to take a responsible approach, keep an eye on what their animals are doing and make sure they clean up after them.”
Cleaning up after your dog, remember:
- Keep a supply of plastic bags near your dog lead so that you don’t forget to take them with you on walks.
- Help to cut complaints about dogs and owners in your area by making sure public spaces are not fouled.
- You can be prosecuted in certain designated areas if you allow your dog to foul and fail to clear it up.
