main content Secretary of State direction for UDP

13 April 2006

The Secretary of State has ‘directed’ the Council to modify the borough’s proposed land-use plan, the Unitary Development Plan (UDP). The Council’s Executive reluctantly agreed on Monday to recommend that the Council modify its policy’s’ on housing density, to conform to the direction and be able to move a step nearer to the UDP being ‘adopted’.

“Our policies have been written following extensive consultation with local residents and interested parties within the borough. The Council is however required to comply with the Secretary of State’s direction which will have the effect of increasing housing densities in Bromley” said Stuart Macmillan, Chief Planner.

The Executive recommendation will be considered at full Council on 24th April 2006. If approved, a statutory six-week consultation period will then follow. After this period, the Council will be in a position to indicate its intention to adopt the plan.
