main content Easier access to information for Bromley families

04 December 2006

Parents, carers, young people and professionals are now able to access a new directory of services designed to help families living in the borough. The new directory is a comprehensive on-line information bank on all types of children and young people’s services. These will include specialist support, whether provided by the statutory agencies or the voluntary sector, as well as hobbies, sport and other out of school activities. It has been designed to be easily accessible to all potential users and will be part of the Council’s own website, which has a proven record of reliability.

A wide range of groups has contributed to the directory, called Information for Bromley Families (address www.bromleyfamilies.info), and arrangements have been put in place to ensure that it is constantly updated. An essential part of the directory is a comprehensive database of voluntary groups, compiled by the Children and Families Voluntary Sector Forum. It will be managed by the Childcare Information Service; part of the Children and Young People Department, which is leading on the integration of services for children under the Every Child Matters: Change for Children Programme across all agencies. Users of the new directory will be able to:

  • Search for an activity or organisation.
  • Review an A-Z list of every organisation.
  • Give feedback to the editors.
  • Provide an update to the information held.
  • Access a printer-friendly version of the record.

Councillor Ernest Noad, Executive Portfolio Holder for Children and Young People, said: “A good directory is essential to help families find out about the services available to meet their needs, and to help professionals make informed referrals to appropriate agencies. I know that a great deal of effort has gone in, together with our partners, to make this as comprehensive and up-to-date as possible. Equally, everyone is determined to maintaining and developing it for the future.”
