Holy Trinity residential scheme gets go-ahead
Plans to convert Holy Trinity Convent school into residential accommodation were approved at the Council’s Development Control Committee on Tuesday. The approval, which is subject to the conditions, gives permission for the development of the Plaistow Lane site to include 112 residential units overall.
“This scheme protects the large proportion of the site which is designated as Metropolitan Open Land (MOL) and Green Chain. The setting of the Grade II listed buildings on the site will be enhanced since the new buildings will be well designed and have less impact than the existing buildings.” said Councillor Gordon Jenkins, Chairman of Development Control Committee.
As part of the proposals, an area of land adjacent to St Joseph’s school is being transferred to be used for recreational purposes by the school.
Planning permission is also subject to a legal agreement which would include the following:
- A payment ‘in lieu’ for affordable housing and a contribution to improve health facilities in the area.
- Provisions to protect MOL as well as the woodland area to the rear.
- Highway works to include improving the access point to the property and re-locating a bus stop.
The 112 residential units are made of 92 units to be built, a 2 storey 10 bedroom nuns’ residence and 19 units resulting from the conversion of existing listed buildings and the gatehouse.
