A benefit fraudster was found guilty at Bromley Magistrates Court, bringing the total prosecuted to 55 since the inception of Bromley Council’s partnership with Greenwich Council in April 2002.

Council Leader Stephen Carr said “This prosecution shows our continuing policy to vigorously pursue fraudsters and protect the public purse.”

Sunitha Sahayam, 57, of Trinity Mews, Penge, pleaded guilty to defrauding Bromley Council of benefits totalling £1,500. She was sentenced to a fine and ordered to pay costs.

The Council is currently seeking to recover overpayment of benefits in this case.
