Norman Park Lodge helps unemployed
The new Construction Crafts Training Centre in Norman Park has changed the fortunes of many people in the borough who have been unable to find work.
An injection of £90,000 of council money in April last year enabled the disused lodge at Norman Park to be converted into a training centre for long-term unemployed people providing them with the opportunity to gain skills valuable to the construction sector. Many have since found jobs or gone on to further training.
At the official launch today, Wednesday 8 February, Cllr. Neil Reddin, Executive Councillor for Community Safety and Leisure told invited guests: “The Centre has been six months in the making. This is a fine example of helping local people to help themselves, while through their newfound skills, trainees are contributing to the Council’s vision of building a better Bromley.”
The Centre, which opened for business in July, has trained 81 people in painting and decorating. Already 18 have moved into employment. As part of their training they have completed works at Cator Park, the Churchill Theatre and at Bromley’s Civic Centre.
Centre Manager, Jesse Ward said: “We are very proud of this initiative. It is really benefiting the residents of Bromley not only because unemployed people are getting free training but because community buildings are being improved.”
