Darrick Wood Sports Centre Lights Up
The future’s bright at Darrick Wood Sports Centre following the installation of new floodlights costing £60,000. The project has been a close partnership scheme between Bromley Mytime the local charitable leisure trust, London Borough of Bromley, Darrick Wood School and the Football Foundation who funded the scheme with £20,000.
Former Chelsea and Celtic football star Paul Elliot and Head Teacher Barbara
Rhymaun switched on the lights at a ceremony, organised by Bromley Mytime, that included football and hockey coaching and demonstrations by pupils from Darrick Wood School.
Steve Price, Bromley Mytime Chief Executive, said: “Bromley Mytime are proud to have been the catalyst for this project and thank the Football Foundation, London Borough of Bromley and Darrick Wood School for their support and efforts. Bromley Mytime is continually looking to develop and improve the facilities and services offered to customers. The floodlights will add a new dimension to this already burgeoning centre and provide sporting opportunities for the local community.”
Councillor Neil Reddin, Executive Member for Community Safety and Leisure, said: "The addition of these new floodlights to the already excellent facilities at Darrick Wood Sports Centre and school highlights the commitment the council has to 'Building a Better Bromley' which will help to maximise the opportunities that young people and all our residents have to lead fulfilling and independent lives."
Debbie Arnold Centre Manager said: "Darrick Wood Sports Centre & Pool has rapidly developed under Bromley Mytime playing a key role in offering sports and leisure opportunities to the local community. These floodlights will complement our extensive sports and pool programme and increase the provision for clubs such as Crystal Palace Football in the Community, Petts Wood FC and Bromley and Beckenham hockey club."
