Special pre-school service reaches award finals - again
Having recently won a national award, Bromley's early support programme has reached the finals of another national competition.
The service has been short listed in the ‘Children’s Services’ category of the 2006 Local Government Chronicle Awards. Winners will be announced at a ceremony to be held at Grosvenor House in central London on 13 March 2006.
Executive councillor for children and young people, Councillor Graham Arthur said: "I am thrilled for the service as this follows its recent success in winning a SureStart Partners in Excellence Award. The work the staff do with some of our most vulnerable young people is tremendous and they thoroughly deserve this national recognition".
Based at the Phoenix Children's Resource Centre, in Masons Hill, Bromley, the early support service brings together more than 130 professionals from a range of agencies, providing co‑ordinated support for families of very young children with special needs and disabilities. This has resulted in greatly improved, innovative services.
Helen Norris, head of pre-school special educational needs and head teacher of the Phoenix said: "We have an amazing team working together here in partnership with our families and their very special children and reaching the awards finals is testimony to the work that they do every day on their behalf".
