Local team in Consumer Quiz top three
Bromley’s Glebe School has clinched third place in the national finals of the Consumer Challenge Quiz. It was a close run thing, down to the last question following three tie-breakers.
Twenty-seven local authorities took part in the event at the ExCeL Centre in London Docklands last week. The competition aims to raise awareness of consumer issues among young people with learning difficulties.
“I’m delighted to be involved with an event of this kind,” said Cllr George Taylor, Executive Councillor for Public Protection and Safety and Chair of the Safer Bromley Partnership. “It’s a fun way to get over important messages about people’s rights as consumers.
“This is a very good start for Bromley’s first year of involvement in the quiz. Now that we know the lie of the land, watch out for the Bromley team next year!”
The Trading Standards department at Bromley Council will be organising full scale local heats in the run up to next year’s event. They will be contacting schools with special needs around September to see if they would like to take part. Anyone interested in getting involved should contact Consumer Protection Inspector Tracey Firth on 0208 313 4467.
