main content Keep your children safe

The Safer Bromley Partnership is advising parents and carers to accompany their youngsters if they go ‘trick or treating’ to make sure they stay safe and don’t get into trouble this Halloween.

The night can be just a bit of fun, or a nightmare for young people and their ‘victims’ alike if a sensible approach is not adopted. Residents could signal their willingness, or not, to join in the fun by fastening a notice in their window requesting ‘no unaccompanied trick or treaters’. The Partnership is handing out simple posters for people to use.

A further message comes from the Council’s Trading Standards officers. “Do be careful about what types of Halloween products you give to your children,” said Rob Vale.” Some are not intended to be toys, and so may have small detachable parts that could choke a child. Look for a CE European safety mark on any toys intended for children and make sure that costumes are fire retardant.”
