It is estimated that over 2 million people in the UK have diabetes and over 1 million again could have the disease without knowing it. The symptoms can include increased thirst and extreme tiredness as well as a number of lesser-known symptoms such as weight loss and blurred vision. These are quickly relieved once the diabetes is treated. Early treatment also reduces the chances of developing serious health problems. To raise awareness about diabetes the Council is holding a Diabetes Awareness Day on April 11 at the Mottingham Community and Learning Shop in Cranley Parade, Beaconsfield Road, Mottingham. People can drop in from 11am to 3pm and find out more about the disease and how it can be managed as well as what the Council and other agencies such as the NHS, Age Concern and Bromley Mytime can do to help. For further details call 020 8860 1150.
