Proud parents of every newborn baby at The Princess Royal University Hospital were offered real nappies to use during their stay and given a special real nappy gift to take home during national Real Nappy Week. Interested Bromley parents can contact the Council for further information on using real nappies and apply for a free ‘try before you buy’ pack.
“Real nappies offer a real alternative to disposables and I would encourage all new parents to try them. I’m pleased to have been able to work in partnership with Bromley Council and Bumbletots Ltd. to provide real nappies on the maternity ward and to support Real Nappy Week in this way.” said Anna Dellaway, Midwifery Manager at The Princess Royal University Hospital.
Many prospective mums and dads also attended a Clothie Coffee Morning to hear all about choosing and using real nappies. Today’s modern real nappies come in a range of natural fabrics, styles and designs. They can be washed at home on a 40- 60°C cycle or, alternatively, parents can take advantage of Bromley’s local nappy laundry service that delivers freshly laundered nappies to your door every week.
“Every day a staggering 40,000 disposable nappies are thrown away in the Bromley borough costing over £160,000 in collection and disposal fees. Parents using real nappies can make a real difference to the amount of waste they throw away - and they can save themselves a great deal of money as well!” said Kay Spurrier, Environment Promotions Officer.
The Council offers free trial packs and a £30 reward for parents using real nappies. For more information call 020 8313 4913 or visit www.bromley.gov.uk/realnappies
