The latest design for Council transport fleet
There are a number of older, often frail adults as well as adults with either physical or learning disabilities, that rely on the Council’s transport service to get to and from day centres. So when the time came to look at the service, the Council took the opportunity to consider all the vehicle options available to get the best design to ensure maximum comfort for those using the service. Staff working with service users listened carefully to their views about the design and that feedback helped Councillor Arthur, Executive Councillor for Adult and Community Services, make his decision at his portfolio meeting on March 29. Views from voluntary organisations also played an important part in his decision. The contract to supply 20 vehicles over a six-year contract was awarded to London Hire.
Said Councillor Graham Arthur: “We want the journeys older adults and those with physical or learning disabilities make in our vehicles to be as comfortable and pleasant as possible. These vehicles have been designed to the latest specification with enhanced climate control for the hot weather and state of the art low access for wheelchair use. But what has been essential to me in reaching a decision was the feedback from voluntary organisations and from staff on the ground who talk and listen to service users and can see first hand what works best.”
