From this week a brand new vehicle will be bringing full library services to those parts of the borough that are most remote from static libraries. At the same time it will begin to travel a new route, with 33 stops each week from Anerley in the north of the borough to Cudham in the south, and will cover more than 10,000 miles in a year.

The new route includes more stops at community hubs, such as schools, sheltered housing and community centres, even opening in the car park of Sainsbury’s, Locksbottom on Saturday afternoons, when it is busy with shoppers, hospital visitors and staff.

The mobile service carries up to 1600 items, including books and dvds, and is particularly useful to older, less mobile residents as well as getting youngsters into the library habit from an early age. It also has improved IT facilities including internet access via the People’s Network. This also provides the opportunity to use the increasing number of online council services available, such as payments, bookings and applications.  The new vehicle has easier access via a step lift, CCTV for increased security and improved heating and ventilation so customers can enjoy the great new facilities whatever the weather.

“Our aim is to make it as easy as possible for as many people as possible to use our extensive library facilities. I’m sure this attractive new vehicle, with its modern attractive signage, design and display facilities, will encourage new members to join and see more visits from existing customers. Now that the reservation charge has been removed, the whole of Bromley’s library stock is accessible for collection from the mobile,” said David Brockhurst, Principal Library Services Manager.

Details of the new route, with days and times, are available on
www.bromley.gov.uk/libraries or from Biggin Hill library on 01959 574468.
