main content Regeneration masterplan for Orpington underway

03 May 2007

Entec UK has been appointed by Bromley Council to produce a masterplan for Orpington town centre. By amplifying existing planning policies this plan will help to encourage appropriate development, swiftly unlocking the town’s potential and securing its future prosperity. This plan will also establish guidelines and design principles to achieve a high-quality safe and attractive environment, as well as identifying ways of improving public spaces in the short term.

Michael Tickner, executive councillor for local economy said: “As the second largest town in the borough, we are committed to improving Orpington’s competitiveness. The town provides an important centre for local convenience shopping, as well as being a business and employment hub. By developing a short-term improvement strategy to create community-friendly public areas alongside a longer-term development framework, we are confident the town will thrive in the future”.

Entec will work closely with key stakeholders, including representatives of local businesses and community groups throughout the development of the masterplan, which will be adopted by the Council in mid-2008.

Entec UK were selected from a shortlist of four companies, and were chosen for their experience in similar work, particularly regarding improvements to the pedestrian environment, as well as for their innovative approach to consultation. The team has also demonstrated strength in retail investment issues, property matters and highlighted the importance of dealing with sustainability issues as part of the planning process.
