Driving down casualties still further
The final road crash figures for the year 2006 are completed and Bromley Council’s Road Safety Unit is pleased that the figures are continuing to show a downward trend. In fact, casualties have been reduced from 1,058 in 2005, to 946 in 2006 – a ten per cent reduction. To keep these figures going in the right direction Road Safety are continuing to run their ‘Complete Driving Courses.’
“Our driving courses are designed to help drivers to improve upon their skills. Most accidents are avoidable and we know that by taking further training drivers can reduce their chances of being involved in a crash. We are aware that most drivers have developed bad habits and can be complacent when driving. If you have not really thought about your driving skills since you passed your driving test, why not come on our course?” said Andy Mills, Senior Road Safety officer at The London Borough of Bromley.
Motorways, roundabouts, night time and bad weather driving are some of the subjects which will be discussed. Most of the ten hour course is based at the Civic Centre, however one of the sessions will be at Bristol Street Motors where there is chance to learn some basic car maintenance. Improving your driving is up to the individual but there is a chance to be assessed on an ‘observed drive’ with the Local Institute of Advanced Motorists.
The course costs only £27. Courses running this year start on the following dates: Tuesdays 22nd May 7 – 9pm; Saturdays 8th September 10am – 1pm and Mondays 22nd October 7 – 9pm. For more information telephone road safety on 0208 313 4546 or book on-line at www.bromley.gov.uk/roadsafety
